I had submitted a resume to a local university for an administrative position that entailed some marketing and event management. I subsequently noticed that there was a more dedicated marketing and communications position open, but have not yet applied.
Is there a rule of thumb for applying for multiple positions with the same employer. There are some similarities with the positions I mention above, though the first is a bit more administrative. What if there are a few positions with another organization that are different...say a Call Center Trainer and a Customer Service Representative?

There is absolutely nothing detrimental about applying for several different jobs with the same organization. Just be sure that you change your keywords to match the specific job description and also if you have the opportunity to write a brief cover letter tailor it to the job. Remember that software scans your resume first before a person actually sees it.

I do it all the time since I'm usually applying at large hospitals where there are multiple administrative positions available. You just don't want to become the type of person who applies for every job regardless of the requirements and qualifications.
