I returned to work after a year of in-patient chemo, only to realize I'd returned too soon. Even though my employer helped me by eliminating travel from my functions to shifting my schedule to PT work, after 8 months I decided before losing my effectiveness at work, it was best for me to take time-off, the time I did not give myself originally after I finished treatment.
Now under what I call a sabbatical I'm receiving great job opportunities through Linkedin as well freinds in the industry. I told my friend that I was taking time off for personal reasons and under my current sabbatical, I was keeping on top of industry happenings in preparation for my return. However, witth Linkedin I've not replied yet. Should I just say I am not available at the moment but do want to keep the door open, given my experience and background fits well with this company?
That brings me to my last question. I've not changed my Linked in Profile yet, it still shows as if I am working for same employer. What would be appropiate to enter under Background, Experience? A new title as a consultant or mention On personal leave?

Thanks so much for reaching out to us. I truly believe that it would be better and more professional to acknowledge the people who are reaching out to you on LinkedIn rather than staying silent. I agree that simply saying you are not available right now makes sense however you plan on being available in x months so that it sounds more definitive. Just because you give people a time frame doesn't mean that you have to stick with that. Also, I would recommend connecting with the people who have reached out to you whom you are not currently connected.
As for your last question, I am a believer in being honest and putting an end date for your last employer would accomplish this. I would just put phrases or words that capture what you do for a living in your heading. For example: Marketing and Social Media Professional.
