I am 24 years old, I recently got a job at a huge corporation. My year date would have been May 22nd, 2010. When I was first told I need surgery I wasn't told it was cancer, because the doctors had no clue ether. However, I was told if the 2 tumors are cancer adn they burst it will be fatal. This was late March I was told this. My job told me to ether resign or wait until my year date so I can go on FMLA (which is only a limited time off) My contract is part time however they work me full time hours, so getting less hours was completely out of the question. I decided to wait it out, surgery came and we found out it was cancer. My count was 2,000 and I was stage 3.75 of ovarian cancer. 8 weeks went by and I had to return to work I had a doctors note stating I could only work part time hours but my work told me they couldnt accomodate to my needs. I got 40 hours I was only able to work 4 hours a day, so I did. However, after my 4 hours I would go home but the remaining 4 hours counted against me in FMLA. Eventually my hours would run out in early September and my last chemo treatment wasn't going to end til late October. I was stressing big time and my nurse realized it so she put me on disability. Disability approved me to stay off work but my job told me they have the ultimate decision to keep my job or not, so on a monthly basis they will notify me to let me know if my job is secure. So from September 'til today I have been on a month to month basis. I am stressed, I am fearful of being thrown in the tank of sharks again with 40 hours. My contract says part time but their are no labor laws to protect me. Is my job legally allowed to have the upper hand to release me even though disability approved me? I have cancer for goodness sakes I didn't choose to have this and I feel like I am being punished.
