LinkedIn Question - How to present this desire for a geographic change on LinkedIn?

Hello, I have been out of cancer treatment for a while. Unfortunately, I had to quit my job (which I did not want to quit) in 2017 as my apartment was being remodeled for the past year. I am living in a temporary location while job hunt and consider making a geographic shift from Menlo Park, CA to another part of California or US. Using LinkedIn for a Career Change and/or Geographic Shift has been challenging. I have asked others, and they have said keep my location the same. I have placed my location as San Francisco Bay Area and Chicago Area, because I am still 50% in each location. I have heard recruiters will not look at individuals, who do not have a local phone number or mailing address. Not having a job is harming me reinvesting into a new place to live. At this time, I still need to work for the next 10 year. I am open to remote/onsite roles or onsite roles. Do you have a recommendation on how to present this desire for a geographic change on LinkedIn and to the professional groups you belong to? Ideas are welcome! Thank you! Happy Holidays! Mandi

Hi Mandi,


I know that we have communicated via the resume review service. I suggest adding a line in the summary of your LinkedIn profile in the beginning that says something like: Extremely open about relocating to location, location, and location so that you look focused but still keep your options open. Saying that you are open to relocating anywhere in the US probably isn't accurate anyway and it makes you look too vague.


I don't see your desire or openness to relocating an issue in networking groups at all as long as you also have a focus in your two-minute drill or elevator speech.
