I was at the conference last week and realized Cancer and Careers is a great resouce.
To try to make a long story short, I find myself here looking for a job in non profit. I am an experienced database professional but I am not being considered for jobs because I don't have experience with their software. I have been trying to volunteer to get experience. I am doing other volunteering and loving it. Have been trying to pursue freelance work and will work in temp positions until I can find the right job. My networking has been great, just nothing yet.
Do you have any suggestions on other things I could do? I know I need to update my resume too. Do I focus on my recent volunteering along with the database management experience?

I am glad that you were able to come to the conference last week! You are doing so many of the right things in your job search. I agree that if you can secure an internship or p-t job to get additional database software experience, this would be ideal. Meanwhile, I absolutely recommend that you put all of your volunteer work on your resume with an emphasis on achievements. I would also highlight in your profile the fact that you have a history of learning new software very quickly and lsit all of the software you have used in your profile/summary on top of your resume. Finally, networking is the way to get into the door so that people meeting you connect with you as a potential employee not just someone to knock out because all they saw was your resume.

I couldn't agree more about the networking. I do feel that is how I will get the opportunity I am looking for. Also, I have been meeting and reconnecting with so many wonderful people Thank you.
