Congratulations on beating cancer not once, but twice. One bout with cancer was more than enough for me.
When I work with my career coaching clients who are looking for a job, I suggest that they do three things.
First, I suggest that they figure out their passion – exactly what they want to do with their lives and careers. It appears that you have already done this. Good for you.
Second, I suggest that they research organizations where they can put their passion to use, and then to make a list of the organizations where they would like to work. This is an empowering experience as it helps them focus on choosing the organizations where they want to work – and who would be lucky to have them – not on applying to any and all jobs that they “can” do.
Third, I suggest that they begin actively networking –using their personal contacts and LinkedIn -- to find people in the organizations where they want to work who can introduce them to prospective hiring managers.
I suggest that you follow these same three steps.

You have an excellent background to work from.

First, create a bio that outlines the skills
and experiences that can be transitioned to the new environment where you want
to work, i.e. first hand knowledge of cancer, teaching, working with children, management,
entrepreneur. Having this will help introduce you.

Make a list of cancer centers and cancer
organizations where you might start networking and volunteering to expand your
network into the cancer community. There’s a national  Cancer Support Community that might have a
chapter in your state.  Once you find the
organizations you like, spread the word that you are looking for an opportunity
within that organization.  Attend their
meeting or events. Get introductions.  Meet
with people who are currently doing what you would like to do. Attend different
support groups, meet with Social Workers who work in Oncology and offer to be a
guest speaker.  Attend the next CancerandCareers Conference or other meet up with Lung Cancer Alliance, Lungevity, etc..With your current teaching and work with children, you might be a perfect fit to work in a Children's
Cancer Hospital.

Research and check out Medical Advocates and
Consulting firms; see what type of positions might be available.  Don’t overlook government positions in your
state’s Office of Health Advocate.

These are a few thoughts to jump start your
campaign to get to the job you want, while still employed. It takes time but just keep at it.

Once you have your Bio together, it might be a
good idea to run by once of our coaches for review.
