Hello Rhonda,

Firstly, I recommend that you check out our Job Search Tools, they are free and can be downloaded here: http://cancerandcareers.org/career-coaching/job-search-tools/. These are very helpful in terms of getting all your thoughts and worries out on paper.

What particular part of the job search process are you struggling with? Interviewing, your resume, lack of health benefits? Once we have a better idea of where you are coming from we will be able to give you more personalized advice.

Warmly,

Alice

Career Coach Comment:

A few ideas for Medical billing jobs.

First, let me point out that this is a good career path right now and particularly if you are searching for a flexible opportunity. Why not start with the medical facility and providers where you get your care.
Also, look at the website of the insurance company where you get your healthcare or, if applicable, your short term disability. There are also medical billing jobs you can do from home.

Next: Google the following keywords:

Medical billing jobs
Medical coding jobs
Healthcare jobs
Insurance jobs

Here are a few sites I came across:

medical-billing.jobs.net/,
http://www.indeed.com/q-Medical-Billing-Specialist-l-New-Haven,-CT-jobs.html,
monster.com
simplyhired.com
http://medical-billing.jobs.net/
careerbuilder.com

Also contact Temporary employment services, where you might find a part time position in this field.

Hope this helps.

Margot

Career Coach Comment:

Yolanda-

Your request is rather broad. There is a lot we can do to help.

First, take a look at our website http://cancerandcareers.org/career-coaching/job-search-tools/,and then let’s narrow down which area you need the most assistance with.

Give us an idea of what type of experience or work you have done in the past, what interests you at this stage of your career, and whether you want a full time or part time position.

I've just receintly been denied employment do to my "honesty" to sertain medical info. I told the intervier { did I say to much to fast? should I've been so open and honest with him??}  I would like to know what I can and cannot say about my treatments during an interview..

Cancer and Careers Staff Comment:

Hi Mitchell,

If you're able to share, what specifically did you tell your employer in the interview?  What you decide to disclose (or not disclose) during an interview is an intimately personal decision.  Unless you are planning to request a "reasonable accommodation", you are under no pressure to disclose in the interview, and in fact we tend to recommend against it.  There are very few instances that it would be beneficial to do so.

However, before I continue, I would love to get more information about your particular situation, so please do let us know more info if you can.

Also as an aside, did the employer specifically say that you were denied the job because you were "too honest"?  Without more detail I can't say for sure, but it is possible you were discriminated against and might want to consider reporting the company to the EEOC.

Looking forward to hearing more from you!

Best,

Alice McKenney

I thought what I told the intervier was just and true.. I just wanted him to be aware of my situation: I told him about my seizure disorder and that it's under control, that I have liver cancer and the kind of cancer treatment Im taking; I beleive honesty is key, perhaps the interviewer felt different about it IDK..

I would like to thank you for all the info. I've learned by reading your posts. Perhaps I'll be better ready for my next interview..  Mitch..
