General Information
- Micro-grants will be limited to cancer patients and survivors who are U.S. citizens, at least 18 years of age, not currently enrolled in school full-time or part-time, and have not received a micro-grant in the past.
- The Cancer and Careers staff is fair and equal in all of its micro-grant processes for all persons, without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, disability, veteran status, sexual orientation or any other characteristic protected by law.
- All micro-grant decisions are final. There is no appeal process for decisions made regarding the awarding of these micro-grants.
- Micro-grants may fully or partially cover registration fees, coaching fees, etc., for professional development training, courses, career coaching, conferences, etc.
Grant Details
- Micro-grant recipients are responsible for arranging and paying for their requested training. This is a reimbursed award. Exceptions made on a case-by-case basis.
- Micro-grant award amounts vary but typically do not exceed $1000.
- Micro-grants in general do NOT cover travel fees to attend professional development training. However, special consideration may be given on a case-by-case basis depending on the application and need.
- Micro-grants do NOT cover undergraduate or graduate school tuition, business expenses, business investments, technology, books & supplies, or personal living expenses.
- Cancer and Careers will not use the first name, last name or other identifying information of the recipient without his/her permission.
- Micro-grant recipients agree to provide Cancer and Careers, within one month, a quote or short testimonial regarding their experience, for use in reports and future promotional materials.
- Micro-grant recipients agree to participate in follow-up surveys.
- Cancer and Careers will reimburse up to the awarded amount upon receiving the required testimonial, payment receipt and proof of attendance/completion of training.
- Reimbursements will be made only if the micro-grant recipient provides proof of attendance/completion of the funded training. A specific type/format required will be determined by CAC staff depending on the kind of professional development that is being funded.
Deadlines, Dates, Etc.
- Applications will be accepted beginning 9:00 AM EST on Monday, October 7th through 11:59 PM on Friday, November 15th.
- Final decisions will be made by Friday, January 31st, 2020.
- Micro-grant recipients will receive their reimbursement check in the mail within 30 days of submitting the required documents to Cancer and Careers.
- If this reimbursement policy creates a financial hardship for a micro-grant recipient, he/she should contact Nicole Jarvis at 646-929-8043 or njarvis@cew.org
- The funded training must be completed and proof of attendance/completion received by Cancer and Careers by December 31, 2020.
- The funded training must take place between the date of the award and December 31, 2019. Reimbursements will not be made retroactively for training that commences before the grant is awarded.
