Jacqueline Elena Black was diagnosed at age 6 with anaplastic astrocytoma, a rare brain cancer. After years of treatment, including a brain surgery that removed her entire left cerebellum, Black was still given a poor prognosis for survival. Now at 17, she's proved all of the doctors wrong.

Black has been battling the very aggressive after-effects of her cancer and treatment which include extremely severe short-term memory problems, lack of hot/cold sensation, seizures, and balance issues. Despite all of this, Black is an honors student and is planning to apply to college for nature conservancy. 

Black shares, "there are always those days when I'm frustrated and I cry...but I'm determined that cancer is not going to take over my life."
