Superior Court Judge, Carl Fox, is no stranger to people rising when he enters the court room. However, when that turned into a standing ovation upon his return to the bench after cancer, it was a powerful and emotional scene. At 62, Fox was diagnosed with myelodysplatic syndrome, losing weight and energy and having to set aside judicial duties.

Though given a grim prognosis of three months to live, Fox and his girlfriend started a campaign to increase participation in blood marrow donation registries. While a perfect match was never found, Fox ended up receiving a blood marrow transplant using umbilical cord stem cells.

Many in the courtroom claim Fox's journey should serve as a reminder to people to never give up. So excited was Fox to return to work, he put his robe in his car on Sunday night.
