New research finds that young adult cancer survivors are at a higher risk for debt and work-related physical and mental impairment after their treatment. 

Many cancer survivors find that lingering side effects of their treatment include dwindling savings, mounting debt and difficulty doing their jobs. Researchers from the Colorado Cancer Center conducted the largest study of work-related risks in young adult survivors, finding, among other revelations, that young adult survivors borrow more than $10,000 for treatment and 1.5% said they or their family field for bankruptcy over their illness and treatment. This findings suggest a need for financial support for young adult survivors.
